On the south-west coast end of Crete located Elafonisi a beach that could easily be found in the South seas. Opposite of the beach lays a small, low island (altitude 20 metres) which gets connected to the mainland by a strip of sand and makes the sea look like a lagoon. The beach is popular and known for its brilliant white sands and clear turquoise waters since the sand is coloured pink and gold by little pieces of shells. A few trees and an amount of rented umbrellas offer their shade to the visitors. In the neighbouring Kedrodasos one can enjoy the combination of sandy beaches and lush cedar forests where you will find many secluded places around for sunbathe.
There is twice a week a guided tour to Elafonisi, leaving at 08:30 from Summer Lodge. An air conditioned coach takes you all the way to the south west coast with stops for coffee or a snack before reaching the beach. On the way back you will have the chance to visit an old monastery and a chapel before the same bus takes you back to Summer Lodge at 19:00.Price : 24 €
