The Archaeological Museum is under the same roof as the Catholic church of St Francis. Rich in idols clay sarcophagus, statues, guns, items of ceramic and glasswork, old coins, inscriptions, jewellery, etc. The Naval Museum of Creteexhibits different kinds of naval war guns, navigation equipment, model ships, portraits of important admirals, even a collection of rare shells! It also contains memorabilia from the second world war and the “Battle of Crete” (1941-1945). The historical Archive of Crete contains pictures, photographs and material pertaining to Eleftherios Venizelos, the revolutions against the Turks and the resistance of the Cretans in the second world war.

The War Museum contains rare photographic material and historical heirlooms from the revolution of the Cretans against the conquering Turks, from the Macedonian war (1903-1908), The Balkan wars and the destruction of the Greek part of Asia. The Byzantine Collection, housed in the church of San Salvatore of the monks Franciscan (15th -17th century) near to Firkas castle by the old harbour, has exhibits dated back to the Byzantine empire. The recently opened Archaeological Museum in Kissamos which houses a wide collection of ceramic and glasswork, old coins, inscriptions, jewellery, mosaics etc. from the excavation in the Archaeological sites of the region.

The Public Art Gallery at the beginning of Halidon street, which houses a part of the collection of artwork which the Municipality of Hania has obtained over the years, is a museum interested in the protection and preservation of culture. The house of Venizelos in Halepa, is the house where Eleftherios Venizelos lived for the majority of his life. It is open to the public and it functions as a museum of furniture and personal items of the great leader.
